How it works
Each game picks a random liquid US stock or ETF and a random stretch of its last two years of daily bars. Prices are rebased so the first close reads 100 and volume is shown relative to its average, so you can't recognise the stock from its price. The ticker and dates appear when you finish.
Every decision fills at the close of the bar on screen — there are no commissions, spreads or slippage, and each trade puts the whole practice account in. That makes it a clean test of one skill: reading structure (trend, support and resistance, volume) and acting on it before the next bar is known.
The scorecard compares your compounded return with buy-and-hold over the same 80 bars. Beating it consistently is hard — most of the time the trend you can see is already priced in — which is exactly why practising on hidden charts is useful before trading real money. Is this paper trading?
It's a fast form of it. Paper trading usually means simulated orders on today's live market; this replays a real historical daily chart bar by bar, so you can practise a few months of decisions in a couple of minutes. Both use no real money.
Are the charts real?
Yes. Each game is a real US stock or ETF's daily chart from the last two years, rebased to start at 100 with the ticker and dates hidden until the end. Stretches with a stock split are skipped so prices don't jump.
How are trades filled?
At the close of the bar showing when you click, with no commissions or slippage. Going short closes a long first (and vice versa), and any open trade is closed at the final bar.
