Volume

The number of shares traded in a period — the fuel behind price moves and the clearest read on conviction.

volume confirms the move
Schematic of a volume — illustrative geometry, not a live price chart.

Volume measures participation. A move on heavy volume reflects broad agreement and real money changing hands; the same move on light volume is easier to fade or reverse. Volume is the second dimension of every chart, read alongside price.

The classic tells: volume expanding on a breakout confirms it, volume drying up in a base signals a coil, and volume spiking at a turning point can mark exhaustion or accumulation. Relative volume — today versus normal — sharpens the read.

On StockSetups

Every StockSetups signal carries volume context — average volume, today's relative volume, up/down volume — and breakouts are graded partly on whether volume confirmed the move.
