Entering as price clears a defined resistance level on volume, aiming to ride the new move that follows the break.
Breakout traders buy the moment price decisively clears a level the market has respected — the top of a base, a triangle, a prior high — betting the break kicks off a fresh move as trapped sellers cover and new buyers pile in. Volume confirmation separates a real breakout from a fakeout.
The method's strength is catching moves early; its weakness is false breakouts, which is why many breakout traders demand a volume surge, a tight prior base, and a close (not just an intraday poke) beyond the level, with a stop back inside the range.
